Carbon Valley Academy

Introduction

As partners in the important process of helping children grow and learn, educators, parents and community members form a powerful team. Carbon Valley Academy (CVA) volunteers serve as positive adult role models for our students and play a major role in making our school a success. We have a set of values that drive ALL decisions here at CVA.

CVA Values:

Community:

Carbon Valley Academy believes in community and creating a stronger community support not only within our school, but with those around us, will help empower people to grow together. CVA believes that everyone can learn something from each other and making this value essential within our school community will teach our students that they are never alone and that there is an entire community surrounding them that is working towards their success.

Character:

Character education is a teaching method which fosters the development of ethical and responsible individuals by teaching them about the good values that people should have. It teaches the students the values of caring about other people, honesty, responsibility, and other important traits that make for an upstanding citizen. Parents want nothing more than for their children to grow up into well-mannered individuals and give the proper respect to other people. Which is why character education is an important part in their studies at CVA, because success in life does not always rely on academics. Character education gives students the necessary tools that they will be using more often than those that they learn from the other subjects.

Core Beliefs:

Empowerment:

Requesting feedback and  input, developing others, and mentoring are all pieces of the empowerment belief that we live under at CVA. We believe that allowing people to think on their own while collaborating with those around them will create a solid base for student learning. When our teachers and staff take the reins and model/teach students how to collaborate with their teammates, this will create learning opportunities that will enable students to formulate how to balance working with others while making strides in their own lives.

Positive Intent:

CVA believes in positive intent. When we create a positive atmosphere, this allows for learning to jump to a new level. We work to create connections rather than make assumptions. Creating connections with others allows for grace and compassion rather than drama and conflict.  We seek to learn more about the situation before we jump into a response. This gives us the time needed to “find our words” and come to a solution in a positive way, and this  belief allows everyone within the CVA COMMUNITY to thrive.
