9/20 Updated CVA COVID-19 policy
Monday, September 20, 2021
Dear CVA Community!
We are contacting you to let you know that we have had several students over the weekend test positive for COVID-19 and we have quarantined several classrooms because of it.
Thank you all for being so caring about CVA COMMUNITY and being fabulous at calling in and keeping your children home when they are not feeling well. Sharing details about their symptoms with Naomi and Roxanna kept us on top of everything we needed to be paying attention to, to ensure the safety of our kiddos. That being said, we have had to quarantine 3 classrooms today. Instead of the 14-day quarantines of the past, we are quarantining for 3- 5 days due to families keeping their children home from school once symptoms are observed. This is allowing us to complete the final days of a 14 day quarantine due to the length of the student absence. A BIG SHOUT OUT to all of you!
Last Thursday I met with the Board and together we created an updated policy that included some parameters or criteria for when things needed to change with our COVID safety policy; I just have not had the time to share it with you yet. To be more specific, the new thinking is that once we had a certain percentage of students either testing positive (5%) OR a specific amount of classrooms negatively impacted by a positive result (forced to quarantine and do virtual learning) that we would begin to wear masks. Due to us quarantining 3 classes today, we will be implementing a 2 week required mask policy starting on Monday, September 27, 2021.
We are all aware of the polarizing topic that masks are. They have been in our faces (pun not intended) since the very beginning of the pandemic and there is a spectrum that people’s beliefs and feelings fall on. As a part of our updated COVID policy, everyone within CVA will be required to wear a mask for 2 weeks starting on Monday, September 27, 2021 and wearing them through Friday, October 8, 2021. A start date of Monday, September 27 will allow both families and CVA to purchase masks so that they are readily available for our students when they enter the building. If you are interested in beginning the mask wearing before Monday, September 27, feel free to do so. Many staff members at CVA will too, I am sure. Our hope is that while we work extra hard to protect everyone within the building for those two weeks, we watch what happens throughout CVA to determine if we continue to wear them for another 2 weeks or if we are below our percentages/numbers again and are able to remove the requirement.
As with this pandemic, behaviors and policies change often and we want you to know that we are paying attention and working to ensure the safety of the kiddos at CVA. Please know that we are very clear that this policy will make some happy and some angry. Our Goal at CVA is to keep our kiddos healthy, happy and learning at school with the least restraint as possible.
Thanks for your understanding and support.
